ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the reversible and irreversible effects of drug abuse using NDLEA Lagos State as a case study. Specifically, the study aimed at ascertaining the nature of drug abuse, the reversible and irreversible effects of drug abuse. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 100 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that impulsivity, violence, injuries, homicides, use of hard drugs, etc are among the nature of drug abuse. The findings also revealed that the use of medication, psychology, screening and assessment, close monitoring, etc are among the ways to reverse the effect of drug abuse. The findings further revealed that brain scars, heart failures and death are the major irreversible effects of drug abuse. The study recommend Recovery (rehabilitation) centre should be established to help the addict himself by first doing for them what they cannot do for themselves. Moreso, family counselling should also be encouraged.
